Experience switching from high carb (450-500g+ a day) to keto.

I've made a few posts here and was worried about switching due to losing strength and gains in the gym but I didn't realize how bad the high carb diet was for me. I was trying to hold onto gains when a bunch of other aspects of my life were being negatively affected by my diet. One day I said fuck it and went keto and had 20g of net carbs that day. I'm bulking and instead of having the normal tons of carbs I eat I had about 70% fat and 20% protein. After reading so many benefits people had with the diet I decided my life was more important than the gym which ended up not being an issue whatsoever anyways. The next day I went to the gym for bench expecting my numbers to plummet after reading posts online about how strength is horrible after switching initially. I took electrolytes (about 8g of salt and 3.5g potassium) throughout the day and went off to the gym. To my surprise I hit all my numbers and only lost a few reps on my second movement towards the later sets. I was super surprised. The next day my bowel movements were completely fixed from high carb (no more wattery shits) and it felt super smooth. My energy tanked a bit witch I suspect was due to the adaptation phase. The crazy part is I still haven't lost any strength and I'm approaching the end of my second week on keto. Lost a bit of reps on second movement but they are coming back. Benefits have been weight is stable everyday (on high carb it would spike and drop by up to 6 pounds on a daily basis), my stomach doesn't rumble and hurt anymore, my bloating is completely gone and I actually look good all day (on high carb I would look lean and good in the morning then look bloated all day and lose a ton of definition, and my face looks leaner. My energy levels seem to be stablizing recently throughout the day and that feels awesome. I was freaking out a bit in the begining about sweets but after finding a few staple recipes that can satisfy my sweet tooth thanks to r/ketorecipies I am completely fine with it. I kept my calories the same during the transition and replaced the carbs with fat and upped my protein a bit due to eating more meat. I no longer feel like shit during my workouts and have up and downs all day with my energy levels. I've experienced energy dips during the last week but as I mentioned before that is getting better. As for what I'm eating: chicken, steak, ground beef, butter, coconut oil, heavy whipping cream, quest bars/cookies, cheese and asparagus. Those are mostly what my diet consists of. I'm still very new to keto so if you guys have any more things you reccomend to diversify my shopping list I would greatly appreciate that. I don't know how everything worked out so perfectly but I want to go back and time and yell at my old self sitting down on the couch, depressed and forcing down bland carbs watching keto experience videos on how much better their energy was while convicing myself high carb is the only way I'll be able to make gains. My lifts are around 210 B / 340 S / 370 D / 135 OHP. Thanks to this community for all the help and I truly think those carbs were destorying my gut and my mental health. via /r/ketogains https://ift.tt/34QCCM5
