Hairstyling, Makeup, Fashion, Recipes, Knick Knacks Search

Hello everyone! This is my first post in this subreddit after lurking for a while. I recently finished the show and it’s so nice seeing how active this community is even after both the show and the movie!I did a few searches within this subreddit for these things and I figured if some of you watch the show you may also have some knowledge on these various things I am looking/searching for!I’m aware that the show is somewhat half and half of the 1910s-1920s but mostly the 20s, so I also welcome Edwardian recommendations as well!I am inquiring about beauty for both “upstairs” and “downstairs”, not just the higher class!1.) Hairstyling: I’ve seen a few tutorials on YouTube, however.. they’re not exactly what I’m going for. I’m looking for details on setting patterns, various styles (not just curling iron pin curls). I also don’t mind any information on finger wave/marcel waves. I saw a behind the scenes clip showing how most/all the female cast wears wigs/hairpieces. I saw a wig they had for Edith, and was curious on finding a tutorial on a similar look/wig.I adored Edith’s hair in the movie especially, so a tutorial or guide for that would be nice!Old advertisements, paper tutorials that they made of had or printed at the time, etc. Also, in regards to hair, also products. I know, it is next to impossible to find projects exactly like what may of been used for them at the time, but similar products, pomades, etc for hair that is being made today that is similar, I would also like!2.) Makeup: I know they wore practically no makeup with a few exceptions, including Edith during her phase of meeting Gregson. I know most people have a misconception on 10s-20s beauty as a whole, so again I’m not so much looking for ‘flapper’. Foundation, eyeshadow, etc. I am also aware of the tutorial of Lady Edith on Lisa’s channel and that was very helpful! I know she mentioned the fact that they use brown liner and lashes, and also airbrush makeup. That was very insightful so, if anyone has more info on makeup at that time, please do share!3. Fashion: So! This one is going to be kind of long, but I am open to already made pieces, as well as patterns for making my own clothing. I’m aware authentic 10s-20s clothing is nearly impossible to find so, I’m not attempting to look for that. Just remakes, patterns, etc. Also, what the common fabrics are for clothing being made at the time. Guides on clothes making at this time would also be helpful.Undergarments & Lingerie: I absolutely adore the undergarments Edith wore in the movie, Lady Mary’s nightgowns and so on. I also enjoy corsetry and would like some info on that! This also includes pantyhose, stockings, etc.For clothing, I also am looking especially for dresses, two piece outfits such as what the Dowager Countess wears.Jewelry is also something I am interesting in having information on.4.) Recipes: So, I am also interested in the meals/desserts made and cooked at that time. I was able to catch a few titles of dishes that Ms.Patmore made but, a cook book or a site with recipes from that time would be nice!5.) Knick Knacks: Lastly, I am a sucker for this and I also welcome books & literature from this time... but anyway, various things such as plates, dining, jewelry boxes, hand mirrors, hair brushes, perfume bottles, antique/glass sculptures, bottles, etc from this period is something else I’m looking for. Again, not exact ones from the 20s, but ones similar in style, look, and so on.Bonus: Information on how seasons worked, titles, courtship, manners, and so on would also be nice to have!Lastly, thank you for taking the time out to read my post if you did, and also thank you in advance for those of you that do share your findings with me and taking the time to do so. I apologize if this post is rather long or possibly a little too off topic of the show. Thank you again! via /r/DowntonAbbey https://ift.tt/37UzwYp
