Help with a savory cheesecake!


Hi everyone! I like making cheesecakes, but I've only ever had dessert cheesecakes, and on reading the savory cheesecake recipes from this old Washington Post article, I was extremely intrigued with the idea of the last couple recipes in the article. Problem is, no one in my house likes alcohol, and I'm not a huge fan of onions. Given that, are the whiskey and onions in this recipe integral to the dish? If so, could they maybe be replaced with something else?
