[Intro] Whoa, this place exists! Also, tomorrow is FRRRIIIIIDAAAAAYYYY!

First of all, hi everyone! I'm J and I live in the frozen north of Minnesota with my soon-to-be-wife (2 weeks!). Her name can be abbreviated by the character "L". We actually met here on Reddit when I was all "holy fuck, I'm going to South America in a month, quick, somebody teach me some Spanish". She replied and was like "hey, I live down here". We actually didn't speak in Spanish at all together but I thought she was the coolest person I'd ever talked to, so after I got back from Colombia, I booked a ticket to go visit her in her country instead. We made out in the airport and were both shaking and now we're getting married after we blew most of our money on a yearlong transoceanic romance that brought two people from best friends to a ton more. Now we're going through the arduous legal process, so that's fun (not)! None of this has been "easy", but very worth it. Gotta love a whacky adventure! AMA about that, by the way. I moderate an immigration sub after becoming very familiar very fast with the laws surrounding consular processing, moving to America, etc. - anyway, we share a studio apartment (270 sq ft) and it's been the greatest adventure of my life as I've never been so active and tried so hard to be a better person. We're in this together, it's tough financially, it's tough to be so far away from home, but we're both happier than we've ever been. There's nobody I'd rather be doing this with.Y mi espaƱol esta mejorando rapidemente tambien. Estoy tratando a mejorar todos los dias por que es mas que una idioma, la idioma de mi esposa es una parte de su identidad y es importante que podemos compartir esa :)So we're both creative types, I'm a professional programmer, writer, and marketer, while she is the greatest designer you'll ever have the pleasure of working with. She hates when I say that, but we've messed around on some projects and she literally amazes me compared to any other former colleague. That's not just proud fiance talking. We've recently jumped on the fitness bandwagon, going to the gym often and cooking interesting and healthy recipes (I have some awesome ones based on Colombian and Ecuadorian cuisine that I'll share in a future post!). We also go on walks to explore our very nature-oriented city often. We share in board games, wine and cocktails, binge watching television, but also try to mingle with the people here and make new friends whenever we can. We go on impromptu museum dates (today we explored the bizarre Walker Art Center), crash jazz shows, and all kinds of other means of having a good time. Also, we're actively looking into relocating and both huge on travel, doubly so as it was woven into our relationship for so long.My personal hobbies that she doesn't share are mostly sports oriented - I'm big on soccer, basketball, etc., and hoping to take her camping for the first time soon which will go either incredibly or horribly. I'm also big on doing things with credit cards that are totally legal but frowned upon as they cause financial losses for banks but then traveling for free on those. Gotta do it somehow while we wait on her employment auth., and my partner is a big fan of the Kimpton Hotel Palomar so... I like to think of it as being thrifty :) We also practice great financial restraint by going to the Chili's near our house and getting $3 margaritas. Seriously, an underrated drunk hack. They make them strong.Hmm, what else... I like driving! Driving is fun. I have a Hyundai Sonata which is probably the most underrated car ever. I love cooking - I just made Binging with Babish's take of the Pasta Aglio e Olio from "Chef" and it was one of the best things I've ever made (seriously, look that Youtube video up and make it - 6 ingredients and so, so, SO good).Workwise, I work for a Spanish language TV corporation that shall not be named, which is awesome because I'm getting loads of practice in and getting to conversational level at home. Practicing and studying there has become yet another passion of mine. It's getting late here so I'll wrap up for now, but I'll answer questions until I conk out in an hour or two! I'm about to try some fancy mask, gender stereotypes be damned, I like having silky smooth skin. Let's chat while that happens. What's up this weekend? Tell me something cool about you!Edit: I'm off to bed now, but I'll do my best to reply to each and every one of you who dares to comment overnight :D via /r/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon https://ift.tt/2tOdDHA
