"Macaron" or "macaroon"?

I was at Bouchon Bakery in Yountville today (famous bakery owned by Thomas Keller, owner of two 3-star Michelin restaurants and creator of the "Ratatouille" dish) buying macarons, and the entire staff kept pronouncing it as macaroons (rhymes with soon). When asked why they were calling it that, they told me that is "what Thomas calls it" so they call it that. I challenged them further and they then said the "macaron" pronunciation (rhymes with on or John) is just people faking a French accent. Couldn't really believe my ears so turning to reddit to see if anyone has Chef Keller on video pronouncing the word. It is pronounced macaron, right? via /r/food http://ift.tt/2tHBMCa
