We need to talk about the confusing motives of Plankton in The Spongebob Movie

Prior to the events of the film, Plankton has one motivation: to get back at ex-friend and long time rival Eugene Krabs, by stealing the recipe of the burger developed at their former business and implementing it into his own restaurant. The Chum Bucket. However, in the first movie, Plankton finally has all he wanted. Me. Krabs is frozen, and pretty much convicted of treason, he has the recipe, and he can become the leader of the food industry in Bikini Bottom. HOWEVER, Plankton decides to also put in a hasty plan: to put mind-controlling hats on the residents, and make them his slaves. Never before do we see a want for him to take over the Bikini Bottom, but now he does. However, if that was his true desire, there’s no stopping him from planning it out. All he needed to do was either convince/force (which we see is possible from what he did to Squidward) Spongebob and Mr Krabs to put on a hat and give them out to customers, OR give him the recipe. This is a glaring plot hole which cannot be excused, and makes the film unwatchable via /r/spongebob https://ift.tt/2pXUNMk
