i tried eating more raw and green for a week and it was 'meh'

i've been cooking all my food myself since last august and it's been great. i've lost some weight and i'm getting more financially efficient with my groceries. also just eating some really tasty food. i think the way i've been eating is pretty healthy even if it's not perfect. i do make and eat desserts regularly and i'm sure we could quibble over how much white rice or potatoes (legit a super-food) i eat or something, but i just don't see that as a real problem. don't get me wrong, i'm not drowning my vegetables in cheese or loading everything with bacon (in fact i never buy either bacon or cheese) and thinking it's fine because it's home cooked but i will eat things like four eggs in one breakfast if i'm that hungry.right now, i'm constantly looking for recipes that are cheap and healthy, or what i consider healthy. i'm already familiar with hummus (yawn) and curries and stuff but every now and then some vegan youtube channel will post something interesting. some of their recipes for basic stuff like salad dressings are really out of the ordinary and far beyond the typical boring vinaigrette so those i 100% recommend trying (just youtube search 'vegan salad dressing'). i'm not about the lifestyle channels but legit vegan cooks have some interesting ideas. i took some of those ideas grocery shopping for a week of food a couple of weeks ago and to be honest... meh.it wasn't any cheaper, maybe a little more expensive even, but not much. wasn't really any more or less work, tasted alright but not amazing. there were a few exceptions, like the salad dressings i mentioned. for all the hype this kind of eating gets, it's really pretty plain once you take away all the expensive glamour crutches like acai berry and chia seed puddings, which even themselves are not that exciting. and if i've got the money to spend twelve dollars for some almond butter, i better pick up some lobster tails too because that's the earning bracket i'd have to be in not to substitute peanut butter.i would much rather have my homemade soups than any of the salads even though they were nice. basically, the things i tried were just a mix of adequate to inferior recipes/tips that lost all their luster the second i made them economical. don't buy the hype, it's just nut butters, a bunch of salad, beans and berries. via /r/TrueOffMyChest https://ift.tt/2v5a0BH
