Suggestions on learning how to pair hops

Like all of us, I want to take my knowledge to the next level, and work to understand pairing hops for hoppier beers. I see all over the web that there are oil contents, flavor wheels, aroma wheels, and all kinds of info that I feel is way over my head. I know the basics about time for bittering, flavor, aroma, and I could just brew a ton of SMASH recipes to understand each hop better, but I'd like to see if I can get good pairings down on paper first. I'm gearing up to brew a bunch over the next few months so I'd like to try and use less conventional (or cheater) hop combos if possible, or minimize having to buy tons of types of hops. Are there simple ways to start learning and understanding the oils and what their contents and percentages mean for your beer? Are the aroma/flavor wheels like color wheels where complimentary options are opposite of what you want, or do you want the flavors and aromas directly next to your goal? Am I just totally missing a great article on the internet that explains this well? Thanks in advance everyone, and cheers! via /r/Homebrewing https://ift.tt/2HDZFzp
